Michael Whittle
MICHAEL WHITTLE is an artist and researcher specialising in Diagrammatology, the study of diagrams. He began with a background in biochemistry before pursuing fine art for his BA, MA, and PhD. Whittle's work integrates scientific images and ideas, often involving dialogues with scientists.
Recent projects include Butterfly on the Sun, a large-scale installation for the 2022 Changwon Sculpture Biennale, developed with NASA astrophysicist David Hathaway. His 2020 project Perpetual Motion examined movement and memory, in consultation with Nobel Prize-winning neuroscientists May-Britt and Edvard Moser. In 2023, Whittle and the American artist / technologist Atticus Sims co-founded Studio Pollen, an AI-powered creative studio in Kyoto, Japan. Whittle is currently an Associate Professor of Contemporary Art at the University of Macau.
